The Whitney Awards will now give scholarships!
The Whitney Awards committee is pleased and excited to announce the creation of a scholarship program for college students interested in creative writing. One of the main goals for the Whitney Awards is to honor those authors who excel at their craft. But another goal is to nurture new talent, to help foster those who will be writing in the future.
Two $500 scholarships will be given to undergraduate college students who are interested in creative writing. Additionally, five high school students will receive full scholarships to the LDStorymakers-sponsored teen writing conference in the summer. All of the scholarships will be given later this year. More information will be forthcoming.
It is the hope of the Whitney Awards committee that this scholarship program will expand in the future, to better help those who will be writing the great books, plays, and poetry of the next generations.
How will this impact the Whitney Awards?
The Whitney Awards will no longer be offering cash prizes to the award recipients. This decision was made with the view that the prize money would be better used to help new emerging authors through the scholarship program.
How can I help?
If you would like to donate to the Whitney Awards Scholarship Fund, please visit the sponsors page for more information. 100% of the money that is donated for the scholarship fund will be sent directly to students and aspiring writers.
